Common issue troubleshooting
In this section, you will find a list of common problems that you may encounter when configuring and using ZTNA, and you will learn how to resolve them.
- Users see an Unknown error message when accessing a resource shortly after it was configured or changed to use a hostname
-
Unknown error. An unexpected error occurred, this may be due to an update to the resource, wait 2 minutes and try again. If this continues, contact your administrator. For more details, please contact the administrator and provide the following Tracking ID:
Reason: An administrator configured a new resource using a hostname, or edited an existing resource to change it from an IP address to a hostname. Resource hostname resolution is not performed instantly – it runs periodically, every 2 minutes. Until the next resolution cycle completes, a user attempting to access that resource may see the error above.
Solution:
- If you are a user who sees this error, wait at least 2 minutes (one resolution cycle) and try to access the resource again. In most cases, the resource will be reachable once the hostname has been resolved.
- If you are an administrator who just configured a resource with a hostname, or edited a resource to switch it from an IP address to a hostname, expect that users may see this error for up to 2 minutes afterward. This is normal and does not indicate a misconfiguration.
- If the error continues for more than 10 minutes (several resolution cycles), this is no longer expected behavior. The Tracking ID in the error message is not something an administrator can act on directly – at this point, contact Portnox Support and provide the Tracking ID so the issue can be investigated.
